Steve leaves the beach at 3 p.m. and drives along the highway at 55 mph. One hour later, his friend leaves the same beach, and drives along the same highway at 65 mph. How many hours will it take his friend to catch up to Steve?

Let time taken be t hours.

Distance covered by steve=55*t miles

Distane covered by his friend=65*(t-3)

So, we have:

55t=65(t-3)

-10t=-195

t=19.5 hours.

Time taken by his friend=19.5-3=16.5 hours.
