MAD is the average distance of a set of data from the mean. this is done by computing the mean or average first,then get the absolute difference of each point from the mean, and average those differences. example:

observation        Mean         Absolute Diff

6                             8                    2

8                             8                     0

10                           8                    2

8                             8                   0

11                           8                   3

6                             8                    2

9                              8                   1

10                            8                  2

5                              8                  3

7                               8                 1

Total                                          16

MAD=   16/10=1.6
