Description
Please note - this is a very quick turn around that requires at least 7 pages written (not to include title and reference page) as well as at least 9 slides (PowerPoint presentation) to illustrate these days. The three days that I see changed America can include any of the following: The Great Migration, America uses atomic bombs against Japan, Franklin Delano Roosevelt sworn into office, Signing of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). I have attached the rubric and sample presentation for format (please use different slides).
Part I:
You are being interviewed by a large national corporation and the interviewer notices you took a history class at CSU-Global. He or she asks you what three (3) days forever changed the history of modern America.
Each day you choose should reflect what you consider to be turning points or reflections of long-term trends. A "day" then might be the day of an important event, or it might reflect a major achievement or the summation of a long-term trend. Describe each day, providing sufficient background to understand the context in which the event, decision, or consequence took place. Then discuss how America was different after that day. How did the change in America also change the world (or conversely, how did the world change America)?
Each day you choose should be from a different era in American history and should be spread across the years 1877 to the present.
The paper is due at the end of Week 8 and must adhere to the following requirements:
- Must contain a clear thesis statement, or claim, about the nature of change, America’s reaction to change, etc. Be creative
- Adhere to CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements
- Must be double spaced in 12-point Times New Roman type
- Include 7-8 pages in length (not including cover and reference pages; approximately 3,000-3,500 words)
- Include headings, per APA guidelines
- Your discussion of each day or event should incorporate two primary sources (for a total of six primary sources). In addition to these, the entire written Portfolio should include four additional academic sources for a grand total of ten sources.
- Sources should be adequately chosen to provide substance and perspectives on the issue.
Part II:
Create a visual presentation that illustrates the 3 days you chose and how they changed America.
The presentation is due at the end of week 8 and must adhere to the following requirements:
- Should illustrate the significance of the event and its impact on history
- Include a final reference page with sources used
- Include at least 9 slides (three from each time frame) not including title or reference slides
- Include a minimum of 4 outside sources
- Use the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements
- Within the context of each day, your slide show should offer at least two different types of media.
- Each image should include a caption, source, and text or an audio track describing the image.

Introduction
From the year 1877 to 2018, there have been many dramatic changes throughout America
concerning the history and involvements of other countries. From the Mexican-American War,
Civil War, and 9'11 Attacks, each event has drastically changed America to where this country is
by their own measures. Each event although closely related to the terms of slavery, racism, and
altercations through wars, each has impacted the United States in their own ways for their own
purposes to create the changes the modern world is now living in. From the fighting over
territories and states, political and social issues concerning slavery, to the terrorist attacks that
occurred in 2001, America will never be the same.
The Mexican-American war, in spite of the fact that it could have been maintained a
strategic distance from, expedited significant changes all through America with the establishing
of golds and profitable regular assets. The Civil War, despite the fact that made a huge number
of lives, were lost and much distress over the conditions of America conveyed opportunity to
slaves and changed the social structures and elements of how America works. The 9'11 assault
was caused by fear-based oppression conventions and instituted significant strategies all through
the U.S. to guarantee that the wellbeing of residents was shielded from promoting ramifications
of fear mongering. With everything taken into account, history assumes a crucial part of how the
eventual fate of our ages will be experiencing their lives and how the states will work.
Mexican-American War
The Mexican-American War began with conflicts revolving around land disagreements
and ownerships concerning Mexican and the United States. This war began in the year of 1848
with not all of the citizens residing in America supporting the war. Thousands of citizens were
against this war and wanted no part in it (Foos, P., 2003). One important individual who strongly
opposed this war was David Thoreau who was an American writer. He believed the actions
brought forth was unethical for the United States to have any part of in it fighting with Mexico.
This was beginning as a result of the Manifest Destiny (Griswold del Castillo, R., 1998). This
concept enabled Americans to believe they had a God-given right to expand any border up to the
Pacific Ocean. Americans also began believing that not only did have this right, they also have
achieved the right to begin civilizing the Catholics who spoke Spanish, Mexicans, and Native
Americans.
Each of these concepts led up to the war between Mexico and the United States.
Congressman John Slidell was sent to Mexico by Polk to offer them thirty-million dollars for the
territories of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming (Schroeder, J. H.,
1973). Upon his negotiation, Mexico declined the offer made by the congressman and refused to
negotiate any further with the U.S. Polk wasn’t happy with the decision made by Mexico and
thus, sent troops into the Rio Grande where they built forts in present-day Fort Texas. the
intimidation that the U.S. was trying to put on Mexico didn’t work for them to rethink their
negotiations. Thus, the Mexican-American war was enacted (Foos, P., 2003).
The Mexican-American war changes the United States since it gave the U.S. a lot more
region for one. On the off chance that that war wouldn't have occurred then the U.S. would have
been to a more noticeable degree a focal and eastern country in the Americas. Spanish, and
Natives around there besides wouldn't have added their customs to the American culture. The
United States would be a lot humbler and advancement into the U.S. from Mexico would have a
sudden position conversely with it does now.
Possibly it wouldn't be as a considerable measure of an issue or possibly it would be an
all the all the more concerning issue. It wasn't a sensible battle since Mexico was having their
own issues with personality and the U.S. had greater essentialness to win (Dawley, A., 2013).
Obviously, the Mexican-American War landing at an end with the two sides denoting the Treaty
of Guadalupe Hidalgo essentially changed the United States. Mexico surrendered 55 percent of
its region to the United States (the entire Southwestern section of the United States today) and in
a vain undertaking to exhibit that there were no hard conclusions U.S. gave Mexico 15 million
dollars (Dawley, A., 2013). If the War had never happened it is hard to state if Mexico would
have ever seen Texas' flexibility however if they would have Texas would be a bit of the U.S.
likewise, the Southwestern piece of what is right now the United States would presumably still
have a place with Mexico.
This war is significant towards the changes in America for many reasons. First, this was
the first war fought with a foreign nation and nearly entirely in another nation. This was also
created even more tension between the slavery issue that was already present America and
drafted slavery issues to affect millions of slaves any further (Foos, P., 2003). On a positive note,
the gold and other natural resources that America found and achieved by acquiring the lands of
Mexico’s greatly increased and contributed to the national economy and towards those moving
westward. Although the war ended with America winning and the new territory acquired brought
great resources, the aggravation it caused between the slave and free states brought on more wars
and acquisitions that helped bring on the Civil War (Foos, P., 2003).
The Civil War
The Civil War was an internal war that occurred within the borders of America. This war
was fought because of differences between religions, politics, and factions. This war was spread
across 10,000 or more locations from New Mexico to the states in the south (Kalyvas, S. N.,
2006). This war caused over two-percent of the American population to become deceased with
over half a million soldiers who fought in it. However, there are many top causes of this war.
Some of those causes related to the freedom of slaves, the underground railroad, and the election
of Abraham Lincoln (Kalyvas, S. N., 2006). Before this war, although tensions grew at the
Mexican-American war regarding slavery issues, slavery was very common.
There was over a quarter of the population that owned slaves. The difficult lives of slaves
made it renounced to many Americans and some who didn’t approve of slavery that something
had to change (Blattman, C., & Miguel, E., 2010). Of all the causes of the Civil War and why
this war drastically changed the U.S. was through the election of Abraham Lincoln. At the time
of his ...
