A function transformation can include when the function is shifted vertically or horizontally, stretched/compressed vertically and horizontally. It can involve only some of these transformations though.
Here's an example: y=x^2 : Vertically stretch it by a factor of 2 and translate it 2 units to the right.
So it becomes y=2(x-2)^2.
