assume Kristin bought x fancy shirts and y plain shirts:

x+y=7                          1

28x+15y=131              2

from 1: x=7-y               3

plug 3 into 2: 28(7-y)+15y=131

196-28y+15y=131

-13y=131-196

y=-65/(-13)=5

x=7-y=7-5=2

Thus Kristin will buy 5 fancy shirts and 2 plain shirts.
