two pumps were required to pump the water out of the submerged area after the hurricane. pump a, the larger of the two pumps, can pump the  water out in 27 hours, whereas it would take pump b 135 hours. both pumps were working for the first 9 hours until pump a broke down. how long did it take pump b to pump out the remaining water?

Pump A can fill in 27 hours
In 1 hour, pump A can fill ----------1/27 part

Pump B can fill in 135 hours
in hour, pump B can fill ------------1/135 part

In 1 hour both together can fill --------(1/27 ) + (1/135) = 6/135 = 2/45 part

In 9 hours both filled --------9*(2/45) = 2/5 part

The remaing part = 1 - 2/5 = 3/5

since pump A broke out, only pump B has to fill remaing (3/5)

Pump B can fill 1/135 in 1 hour

so 3/5 part can be filled -------135*(3/5) = 81 hours

The remaing part can be filled by pump B in 81 hours
