INTRODUCTION
High-risk nutritional behaviors refer to feeding habits and practices that pauses high health
risks/challenges to the people involved in them. Nutritional malpractices affect anyone regardless
of age and social class. Generally, nutritional practices have greatly changed all over the world.
One of the factors that have caused the dramatic change in nutritional behaviors is modernization
and rapid advancements in food technology, inventions, and innovations. Apart from
modernization, culture plays a very critical role in examining and determining the eating habits of
a particular group of people. In fact, nutrition and culture are highly inseparable in any way.
Actually, one of the major domains of any culture is the nutritional patterns. Nutritional
patterns/practices directly influence health and therefore it is important to note its importance in
life. Right nutritional practices encourage good health while bad nutritional patterns amount to the
poor health status of most citizens of any culture. Most cultures have nutritional behaviors that
encourage good health while the majority of the cultures have nutritional behaviors that promote
high health risks (high-risk practices). Nutritional practices have a direct association with two
major cultural elements namely historical perspectives and belief systems. Apart from this two
elements, there are other factors that affect the behavior of each different culture. Some of this
factors may include but not limited to education, family roles, spiritual beliefs, drug and alcohol
use and health care practices.

addressed all the high-risk nutritional behaviors of the ten different cultures in the world and
mostly the United States of American. High-risk nutritional behaviors have over time impacted
negatively the global public health as people interact and change cultures and adopt different ones.
Culture number one that has been on the rise pausing high-risk nutrition behaviors is that
of the American children of eating junk food. Recently, a majority of the American youth and
children have developed the habit of taking junk foods frequently as their daily meals. This
behavior has been greatly influenced by several factors but there is no belief system or historical
perspective that has contributed to it. Studies conducted lately show that the causes and effects
reveal that this practice is caused by junk food availability and advertisements, education and
family roles. Nowadays most youths and children do not take natural foods prepared at home. They
eat away from home as they undertake their education schedules and family duties preparing to
take ready food, especially junk foods. Another contributing factor is demanding careers for youths
and parents. This nutritional pattern has led to an increased deadly childhood diseases/risks such
as high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes (Scaglioni S1, 2011).
The second culture that is associated with high-risk nutritional behaviors is the American
adults’ culture. They mostly practice smoking, overeating and alcohol use. The adult behaviors
have a historical perspective and belief though most are lifestyle related causes. Most adults get
into this behaviors due to stressful lifestyles at home and work. They have historical perceptions
and belief that alcoholism and smoking reduce stress and overthinking. An abundance of food is
the major cause of overeating. Some people eat a lot when they are stressed more than it is required.
On a general view, both the children and adult cultures have collectively contributed to high-risk
nutritional behaviors and deadly diseases. It is important to note that risky nutritional behaviors
and the diseases they cause impacts the health sector negatively as medical bills increases.

African American Culture. High-risk nutritional behaviors have damaging effects on the
people practicing them. Obesity and hypertension have been on the rise among the African
Americans since 1980's. Recent statistics show that the number of obese cases has approximately
tripled especially among African American women. This phenomenon has historical perception.
It is attributed to the high level of discrimination the African Americans have faced for years
making them grow up living in poor neighborhoods. Since they have gotten freedom, they have
adopted dietary cultures that they have never seen or experienced leading them to risky nutritional
behaviors. Most rely on fast foods claiming they are convenient to them (High-Risk Nutritional
Practices (Essay Sample), 2015). Secondly, several researchers have cited sedentary lifestyle as
another factor that has led to obesity among the African Americans. There are other many factors
that been cited by researchers (Daphne Kaye Sharpe1*, 2016).
Mexican culture. The Mexican community is known for their festive culture where they
frequently gather to feed and celebrate which raises risky nutritional behaviors. They consider
socialization as the time to dine with different mealtimes that can span the whole day. This is
culminated by food availability due to a good climate in their geographical regions. Binge feeding
leads to overeating which in turn leads to bulimia a condition where one experiences erratic
vomiting attempts. They also like consuming large amounts of alcohol in their social gatherings
which is supported by their culture.
The polish culture risky nutritional behaviors. In Poland, culture allows people to
participate in alcohol taking and other illegal substances abuse such as cannabis. This is due to
long-standing hardships in life. The alcoholism habit has led to high rates of liver cirrhosis,
alcoholic psychosis, and alcohol poisoning. The risky nutritional behaviors of substance abuse and
alcohol are based on the belief that they will forget their lif...
