Working of a Neuron
Human beings perform different roles because their bodies have neurons which send
information across all parts. This enables coordination of the entire body parts. Neurons are
termed as nerve cells. Neurons have a structure that is made of three parts. These parts are the
soma or the cell body, dendrites and the axon. The neurons stand out in that they can send
information from the brain to other body parts. This paper, therefore, seeks to explore the
structure of a neuron as well as how it works.
Basically, a neuron is a cell which is used by animals to detect what is happening within
the internal and external environment of their bodies. Besides, through neurons, animals can
come up with responses to both the internal and external happenings as well as controlling their
bodies regarding the type of response chosen (D'Esposito, 2007). For example, when a person
gets burn by a candle, there is a transfer of stimuli by ascending neurons to the central nervous
system where the descending neuron stimulates the hand hence removing the finger from the
candle. The structure of a neuron is such that the three parts work together to coordinate the
different functioning of the body. Ideally, the three overarching parts of the neuron perform
different roles which sum up the working of a neuron.
