IT Question 2
IT Question 2
IT is a major part of all businesses. I consider it to be the backbone of a business. In order for IT to contribute to the overall success of a business, they have to be completed involved in all aspects of the business decisions. IT is very diverse and has a lot of different technical areas. So, there just can't be one leader in IT. Different personnel have different areas of expertise. Everyone in IT must be a leader so that all of these technical areas have a voice in the business decision-making. This quote is stating just that. Everyone in IT must step up and take a leadership role to support the business. Everyone in IT has to contribute to the business strategies and make sure the business reaches its goals. A business must establish a supportive work environment. Everyone must be open-minded and willing to listen to new ideas from there colleagues. The business will increase its efficiency when they have all of IT acting as leaders.A business must be willing to take the approach that makes them the most competitive in the business market. If they stay on the track of making sure that there whole IT staff takes a leadership role, they will definitely be competitive in their line of business. For those companies that don't have their whole IT staff as leaders, it will be hard for them to stay competitive. They will be at a disadvantage because they are not maximizing the technical knowledge they are paying for in there employees.

1. What, if anything, should we do about this blog entry? I think they should do nothing about the blog entry, because it will raise more public attention to that blog entry if they take down that blog entry, it may also bring bad effects to the blog’s author himself and cause disharmony between IT department and other department. But Barton and his team must make policies to make sure the IVK staffs don’t disclose any company’s proprietary information to general public. 2.What should be our general policy about blogging based on inside information from within the company? The company’s general policy about blogging should at least include: First, it should specify the IVK employee’s blog should not disclose any confidential information of company. Second, it should specify what scenarios will consider as information disclosure and prescribe different level of information disclosure. Last, it should prescribe measures and punishments to the person who disclosed information based on different level of information disclosure. 3.What should be our process for spotting emerging technologies and analyzing them to see how they might be relevant to us, for better or worse? The most effect way to spot emerging technologies is to form a special group that periodically explore and seek the IT emerging technologies and analyze those technologies. The group also should periodically investigate research findings from research institute and other companies that have successfully use emerging technologies. It can also establish a company’s technology forum; every employee can freely speak out their ideas about emerging technologies. IT department may receive useful information form the How would you respond to Bernie Ruben’s three questions about blogging and emerging technologies? Identify the three questions and provide a response to each?

Barton met the kid in a bar, Vinnie’s right after he became the CIO of IVK. After many meetings in which Barton thought he was just a young, nerdy kid straight out of college, the kid turned out to be Jonathon Luce, a key player in the computer graphics industry. All along the kid, or Jonathon has been giving Barton advice to guide him along in his tenure as the CIO of IVK. He has been there giving him key advice, pointers, and an outside perspective on the situations that he has been dealing with at IVK. Luce has been a mentor of sorts along the way that Barton has been offering a job to, while all along I think that Luce has been grooming Barton to become the CIO of an international bank. I don’t know if it is complete coincidence that they met; however, if Barton stays with IVK despite the job offer from Luce to work at his computer graphics company, the information and guidance that Luce has been giving him will pay off for IVK and for Barton’s career as the CIO of IVK. If he decided to leave and work for Luce, all of the guidance would have been for nothing as replacing a CIO and having that person take over all of the processes that Barton created and implemented will be useless and too time consuming. The kid has been giving Barton great ideas and helping him to see outside of IVK to keep their company competitive with the industry and to think ahead and progressively.

answer 1Simply put, the toolkit approach should be what all managers and supervisors
should adopt when taking the lead on projects. The assumption of some managers
is that you can go strictly off of your own knowledge and experiences to guide
new projects and just apply your own knowledge. The toolkit approach suggests
that managers should seek advice of others on their team and within their
organization to add to the knowledge and perspective of how to guide a project.
In addition, the toolkit philosophy expresses that you can't just rely on your
previous experiences and knowledge from other projects and assume that that
knowledge is enough and the best approach to deal with the new project. Even if
the project is similar to what you have led and dealt with in the past, it
doesn't mean that the methodology you used previously will be the right approach
this time around.
In summary, I wholeheartedly agree with the toolkit method and think it's an
approach that should be used in all project management. Don't assume old
experiences will be fully applicable to new projects and always be willing to
listen and obtain knowledge from other sources on your team.answer 2 I think that the kids toolkit approach to management is an
approach that all IT managers should adopt. They need to be open, flexible, and
willing to hear ideas from all staff including and maybe especially junior
staff. Information technology is a rapidly changing field, stagnation will
easily leave a company in the dust and belly up. By being flexible and open to
new approaches to ideas, a company is able to stay fresh and competitive with
the latest technologies that could ultimately alter the way that business is
done within their company. Continuing to approach problems in information
technology with the same methodical approach every single time is not always the
correct approach for unique problems. Continuing to follow the same approach may
in fact create new problems in information technology Solving problems within
the information technology field need to be unique to the situation at hand. The
kids line about not using a hammer when you need a wrench is a perfect analogy
for many current IT companies that use the hammer because they are following the
same strategy that has worked for them in the past. It is able to get the job
done, but it involves more labor, more hurt fingers along the way, and more
damaged products because the correct tool was not used. In the end it ends up
getting the job done if you’re lucky, but it leaves a lot of room for efficiency
to be improved. This is a great analogy for problems in information technology
as well.
