Description
Task: What is a modern American woman? Everyone has a different answer to that question, and your assignment is to answer that question in an essay. Begin your discussion by stating at least four characteristics of a modern American woman. They should be identified in your thesis (if you do not do this, you will receive a zero on this essay assignment). In the essay, please define each characteristic and provide examples of women who we have studied who either meet or fail to meet your definition of each characteristic. For example, if you state that a modern American woman is independent, make sure that you define what you mean by independent, and then give an example of a character who either meets or fails to meet your definition of being independent. That is, you could write, “Nora Helmer is independent because . . .” or “Nora Helmer fails to meet the definition of being independent because . . ..” Provide good specific examples from the texts. Recently, we have studied the characters of Lysistrata in Lysistrata, Nora Helmer in A Doll’s House, Louise Mallard in “The Story of an Hour,” and Frances in “The Girls in Their Summer Dresses.” Previously, we have studied the characters of Alice More and Margaret More in A Man for All Seasons and Katherine Stockmann and Petra Stockmann in An Enemy of the People.
