Balance chemical equation first, and then calculate the answer.

_Al+_O2-->_Al2O3

How many grams of Al2O3 will be formed from 17.4 grams of Al?

May 20th, 2015

Balanced chemical reaction is

2Al + 3O2  ---> 1Al2O3

Molecular mass of Al = 26.98 g/mol

So moles of Al = 17.4/26.98 = 0.645 moles

Now according to balanced chemical reactions

Molesof Al2O3 formed  =  0.645/2 = 0.3225

So , mass of Al2O3 formed = 0.3225*molecular mass of Al2O3

=0.3225*101.96

=32.88 grams of Al2O3 is formed.
