Description
Unit V Assignment
You managed to schedule an informal conference with the area director at the regional OSHA office four days after you
received the Notice of Citations and Penalty. Based on the citations and penalties you received in Unit III, prepare a
document that lists the citations and penalties you wish to discuss with the area director.
You should summarize what you are trying to accomplish in regard to each citation/penalty you choose, to include:
the information you will use to try and accomplish your goal,
the information you will take with you to the meeting, and
who will accompany you to the meeting.
You must support your actions with reliable sources. Your grade will be based on your ability to present a case to your
professor (serving as the area director) to reduce either the severity of some citations or the amount of some penalties. If
you simply state that you accept the citations and penalties as written, you will receive a minimal score on the assignment.
Your response must be a minimum of two pages in length, not including the title page and reference page. You must use at
least one reference in the paper. All sources must be cited in the text and on the reference page, using APA style.

CITATIONS AND PENALTIES
This document is a list of all the penalties and citations that will be discussed with the
area director in an attempt to reduce the severity or seek total dismissal of some citations and
penalties that were received in the Notice of Citations and Penalties four days ago. I will be
accompanied by the managing director of operations and two employees to this meeting.
Some of the citations and penalties that will be discussed during the informal conference are;
1. . Citation 1 Item 1a Type of Violation: Serious 29 CFR 1910.1025(c)(1) Exposure
levels to lead fumes during welding operations were not kept below the established
permissible exposure level (PEL)
We request for a reduction in the penalty of this citation that requires the ceasing of
welding operations before there is a solution that is set up. This request comes with a surety
of proper training of all welders, both new and old employees, that is scheduled to start
within the next three working days. They will be trained on proper safety and how to reduce
exposure levels to a minimum (Probst & Estrada, 2010) especially when undertaking welding
operations. Stopping all welding operations will hamper our attempts to put the plans into
action and reduce the resources that have been set up for this operation. Also, strict rules have
already been set up to ensure that only qualified personnel with the correct attire will be
allowed to access the welding area. Some of the resources that will be used to accomplish
this include the hiring of more safety engineers and managers, IH as well as PPE suppliers.
