Clinical question
Does the treatment of Osteoarthritis necessitate the use of glucosamine and chondroitin as
the most effective drug for young people with primary Osteoarthritis?
Problem description
Secondary Osteoarthritis may be a result of Trauma, congenital malformations, premature
menopause or even a metabolic disease. The most common form of osteoarthritis among young
people is in the knee. However, there are diverse forms of Osteoarthritis such as in the hip and
the shoulders. The definition of young in relation to the disease is that patients are not older than
55 years of age. The classifications of Osteoarthritis are simply, primary and secondary. Primary
osteoarthritis defines cases where the patients are not certain of the cause. The question therefore
is based on the certainty of the drugs used. Young people with primary Osteoarthritis do not
receive a diagnosis based on an exact cause, but rather drugs are administered to prevent
secondary Osteoarthritis. Young people with an undefined cause to Osteoarthritis are at greater
risk of Secondary Osteoarthritis if faced with Trauma or other factors that may cause the
disorder. In a case where the disorder results from genetic factors, glucosamine and chondroitin
may not be surefire ways to treat the musculoskeletal disorder.
Significance of Problem
The diagnostic procedures are the same for both young and old patients in that the
evolution of pain is the main focus when diagnosing the patients. Radiography is what confirms
the diagnosis to produce accurate results. The types of Osteoarthritis differ but do not affect
diagnostic procedures. There are tests used to quantify the function of the body. The tests are not

age sensitive and the young subjects are not considered in terms of diverse terminologies and the
ability to withstand secondary Osteoarthritis at a young age. For the older patients, the tests are
well planned to create questionnaires and patient-specific complaint pages to involve the
patients. Most questionnaires have been unfruitful in providing detailed information on the
patient due to difficult terminologies. The nursingdepartment has to make a comparison of score
outcomes with subjects of the same age in order to ensure that there are zero mistakes made
during the diagnostic procedures. Exercise difficulty does not only occur for those with
