Kristen sold 8 NY style Cheesecakes and 4 Apple cheesecakes for a total of $124. Find the cost each of one NY style cheesecake and one Apple cheesecake
Create a system of lineAr equations that represents the problem
Explanation & Answer
Let's assume;
One NY style cheesecake = X
One Apple cheesecake = Y
In case of Gray;
2X + 8Y = $164 .......................(1)
In Kristen's case;
8X + 4Y =$124 ......................... (2)
Multiply equation (1) by '4' and then subtract from equation (2);
(8X + 4Y) - (8X + 32Y) = $124 - 652
4Y - 32Y = -528
-28Y = -528
Y = 528/28 = $19 approx
One Apple cheesecake = Y = $19
Put Y = $19 in equation (1)
2X + 4(19) = 164
2X = 164 -76
2X = 88
X = $44
One NY style cheesecake = X = $44
