How to write a formula for converting a 3/4 inch square to a 2 ft square

May 22nd, 2015

1 ft = 12 in

12 in = 1 ft

Divide both sides by 12

$\frac{12}{12}\hspace{5}in=\frac{1}{12}\hspace{5}ft\\ \\ 1\hspace{5}in=\frac{1}{12}\hspace{5}ft$

Multiply both sides by 3/4

$\frac{3}{4}*1\hspace{5}in=\frac{3}{4}*\frac{1}{12}\hspace{5}ft\\ \\ \frac{3}{4}\hspace{5}in=\frac{1}{16}\hspace{5}ft\\$

To increase it to 2 ft we have to multiply it by a number. Let it be x

$\frac{1}{16}*x=2\\ \\ x=2*16\\ \\ x=32$

So to convert 3/4 in to 2 ft we have to multiply it by 32.
