Quality is a critical component of any healthcare organization that seeks to scale up to
greater heights of success. Quality is also important in satisfying the customers’ needs and
retaining their loyalty so that they can continue seeking services of a given organization or buy
products from the same. A quality service or product contributes significantly to long-term
profitability of any organization, as well as building an organization’s reputation, which can enable
an organization charge or maintain higher prices (Bose, 2011). In simple terms, quality can be
defined as the totality of characteristics of a product or service that has the ability of satisfying the
implied or stated needs. The concept of quality is subject to different interpretation according to
the perception of people, but the underlying fact in regard to quality of service is the level of
satisfaction of customers receiving a given service (Bose, 2011). More importantly, the perceived
quality of a service or product forms the basis for continuous improvement of a service or product.
Measurement of quality is fundamental towards improving the quality of a service or
product. The measurement of quality entails quantitative measure of the important attributes of a
product or service. In regard to measuring quality, it is important to ascertain the criteria that will
be used in identifying the desired level of quality and determining if it has been realized (Bose,
