Description

Weathering and erosion are very closely related topics. Describe how these two processes can shape the landscape and be sure to provide examples. You may choose to discuss an individual form of weathering and erosion or concentrate on a given area such as deserts, glaciated areas, or river systems and the forms of weathering and erosion that occur there.

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

  • 3-4 pages in length (does not include title and reference page)
  • 1-2 outside sources
  • Formatted according to APA

Introduction
Weathering is the breaking down of rocks into smaller fragments through processes
which can be organic, chemical or mechanical. The organic weathering is brought about by
plants' roots growing and weakening the rocks or the acid produced by the plant may end up
dissolving the rocks hence making them weak and eventually they break. The chemical type of
weathering is whereby rocks and minerals are decomposed or decayed through a chemical
reaction especially when water comes in contact with these rocks. Water can also break and
weaken rocks through the mechanical weathering. When water gets into the cracks of these rocks
and freezes, it expands and ends up splitting the rocks. All of these processes break the rocks into
pieces that are now ready for erosion. Erosion is the movement of these rocks and sediments
from one location to another by the help of agents like water, wind, ice or the gravity. It is
therefore evident that both weathering and erosion work tog...
