Zora Neale Hurston remains one of the most influential women writers despite all the
challenges she faced or the critiques her work received. Physical appearance, unique personality,
family background are amongst the strongest qualities that made Zora an outstanding and
influential writer of her time. Zora, although unexposed to racism at an early age, exploited her
unique view of the world and outspoken nature to ease the racist tension in her society. In a time
when being black was like a plague, Zora celebrated being black thereby contributing greatly to
shaping the black literary as well as empowering the black cultural heritage and movement.
