Most researchers, public officials, and individuals from the general population concur
that organizations giving contraband services and products, including those involved in drug
trafficking, cannot work without corruption. Corruption has since time immemorial molded the
political issues in Mexico and the trade of drugs, but never have these variables conspired to
produce the level of brutality, violence, and insecurity seen as of late. The proof behind corrupt
deals wherein degenerate state officials sustain and support the trafficking of drugs in Mexico is
overwhelming. Political patronage, endemic corruption, and patron-client relationships give the
