More than 200 nations have been affected by the recent outbreak of a novel coronavirus
illness (COVID-19), which has already claimed the lives of thousands of people. In COVID-19
patients, diabetes mellitus (DM) has emerged as a unique comorbidity linked to worse disease
outcomes, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, and higher mortality. The serious repercussions
may be avoided by maintaining tight control over blood sugar levels, which would strengthen the
body's natural defenses. Complete diabetes care and glycemic control have taken a back seat as a
result of the nationwide lockdown imposed by the government to halt the spread of the pandemic.
Social isolation, quarantine and lockdown on lifestyles, restricted food supplies during the
lockdown, procurement of anti-diabetic medications and glucose strips, and inability to visit
doctors for routine clinic follow-ups all pose difficulties for people with diabetes attempting to
self-care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The persistent worry of developing the COVID-19 pandemic has had a psychological toll
on those with diabetes mellitus. Negative feelings like despair and anxiety, which may have an
impact on glycemic management, have been experienced by patients with diabetes mellitus as a
