Group Leadership and Conflict Summary
GROUP LEADERSHIP AND CONFLICT
The intent of our discussion appeared to be extremely clear to the group members who
took part in the discussion. We agreed collectively that even though the meetings were far from
perfect, they were normal in regards to the types as well as the amount of tension in which they
were built. We were all able to identify these tensions and provided some feedback regarding
the manner in which they could have been settled or even avoided. The group comprised of
five members. Out of the five members, however, only three appeared to show interest in the
conversation over the course of the week. I would, therefore, say that as a collective, we were
not completely ready for the discussion.
I think that everyone did not participate equally in the discussion. Two of the members
who were actively involved in the discussion answered the questions expertly, offering
explanations to their opinions and also asking new questions. They did a fantastic job in
answering the questions, breaking down each one of them for the rest of the group members to
understand. The other two, however, did not have much to contribute. They mostly agreed with
what the others had to say. Throughout the discussions, I made myself the initiator and even
the facilitator. I would also say that I acted as the group’s mediator when it was necessary.
All of us who took part in the discussion were to a larger extent open to different ideas
and points of view as well. For the most part of the conversation, however, we agreed on
everything that was possibly wrong with the scenarios presented in the videos.
Overall, the climate of the discussion was calm. Members who were prepared or willing
to take part in the discussion expressed themselves freely. There were no consistent arguments
and interruptions, and members agreed on most of the points made.
