Every time we speak with or interact with someone in our daily life we make a
choice, be it conscious or not, to be truthful. Seeking truth within ourselves and others allows
us to better understand ourselves and those around us. To build meaningful connections with
people we must be able to be open and truthful with them and seek their truth. Truth, as a
concept, can mean different things to different people and there are different ways in which
we can find truth. Some may be provable by our ability to see it directly whereas some might
be more complicated than that. Human experience is a complicated issue and finding truth
within that is no different. This essay addresses three theories of truth and how well the
theories cover truth in human experience.
Correspondence Theory
The correspondence theory of truth is the belief that something can only be seen as
true if it is in line with something that exists or is present in the world. The thing we are
telling the truth about must exist in the world in a way that can be seen to us to be in fact true
