Description

Entrepreneur Mrs. Kelsey Kinard, owner of Lovefusion Photography, helped me realize some important business and faith concepts to incorporate into my own business ventures. She revealed that she initially did not intend to become an entrepreneur and own/operate her own business. While she pursued her passion and gained a significant portfolio of clientele, she finally realized that starting an official business would be necessary to carry on her passion. Businesspeople must understand when it is appropriate and wise to start their business. Bear in mind that, “[r]eadiness is the willingness and ability to do something; it also refers to the environment within which an individual or institution has been prepared for a future task,” (Othman, Hashim, & Ab Wahid, 2012, p. 699). In addition, “successful entrepreneurship relies both on willingness and entrepreneurial abilities, and on environmental conditions,” (Othman, et al. 2012, p. 699).

Mariotti & Glackin (2016) reveal that a “savvy entrepreneur learns from the mistakes of others and appreciates the wisdom and experience of trusted advisors and mentors,” (Mariotti & Glackin, 2016, p. 11). With this in mind, Mrs. Kinard detailed how her trusted friends and other business owners have helped advise her and direct some of her business decisions. Mrs. Kinard unveiled her obstacles as gaining notoriety in her market and not getting caught up in comparing her business to other businesses. In addition, she added that Christian business owners should always keep God as number one and not to obsess over one’s business and sacrifice family and church time. Ecclesiastes 2:26 indicates the consequences of failing to please God, stating, “To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God…(NIV).
