Assessment
Using the Settler’s assessment pillars, one can understand the child behavior in relation
with the group the child is mingling with. The four pillars of assessment are very important in
assessing a child. Settler suggested that the assessment should have norm-assessment pillar for a
standard test, interviews to the clients and people around him or her, making observations to the
client and conducting an informal assessment before making a conclusion. When assessing a
minor citizen, the psychologist should act ethically throughout the assessment process. He or she
should protect the rights of the child.
This paper evaluates the Sattler’s assessment pillars. It explains the use of the four pillars
in assessing a minor in educational setup. The paper also outlines several ethical considerations
in the assessment.
Part A

main objective of this step is assessing the intelligence, behavior and the social-emotional

I will evaluate and seek to understand the child’s functioning in his social sectors. Such
information will come from an assessment of the child peer groups.
As a psychologist, I will evaluate his position in the group. This will evaluate if the child
is comfortable in the peer group or not. I will identify the strengths of the child in the three areas
to understand the issues disturbing him or her to perform poorly in academics. This stage will
provide a base for further testing.

teachers as well as some of the friends of the child to understand his behavior that may affect the
child’s performance.
I will interview the child to understand various aspects of the child behavior. I will use
