Description
Do some research on the prevailing political philosophy of Singapore. Would this philosophy come closest to that of Malthus, Marx, or someone (or something) else? Discuss this in terms of each of the transitions comprising the overall demographic transition. Are trends consistent with the modernization theory, the rational choice theory, a cultural change and diffusion theory, the theory of demographic change and response, and/or cohort effect models? Is there evidence of a “second demographic transition”?

In Singapore, pragmatism has formed the basis of their approach to governance. This is a
reflection of Lee Kuan Yew’s view, that policies are not cast in ideological stone. The
philosophy of pragmatism is based on a reluctant to a person’s commitment to another person’s
set values. A person who has adopted a single ideology can be criticized as an ideologue and no
value to the common good. Pragmatism is noted as a rational middle that smoothens out the
difference in values that Unit them (Cheang, 2017).
