1. The World Wide Web consortium creates standards for the web. Visit its site at
http://www.w3c.org and then answer the following questions.
a) How did W3C get started?
W3C was founded by Tim Berners-Lee in the year 1994 in collaboration with European
commission and CERN. It was meant to ensure long term development and growth of web
through enacting of protocols and guidelines.
b) Who can join the w3c? What does it cost to join?
W3C membership is open to both individuals and organizations. The organizations may be
Educational, commercial or government owned entities. Once the membership terms and
conditions are met any entity can become a member.
The W3C member are required to pay an annual membership fees. This varies depending on the
type of membership, organizations location of headquarters. Individuals investing on W3C pays
a relatively smaller fee compared to an institution.
