Erikson's Psychosocial Stages of Development
In the growth of a human being, the variety of development stages is fascinating but unique.
Among these steps is the trust versus mistrust stage. This trust and mistrust is the earliest stage in
the growth and development of a child. In this period the child is uncertain of who to trust and
who not to believe. The child is interested to know where it can lean on in case of hurt and where
to look for reassurance and comfort when they do well (Lewis, 2015).
Growing up, my brother was a fascinating child and had a special attachment to our nanny by
the name Nancy. Nancy was there when my mother was not. Nancy was our second mother for
lack of a better description. Nancy would wake him up when I had slept for too long just to see
him smile. From a tender age, Nancy would clap for my brother whenever he finished all his
food and in good time. Nancy would play around with my brother when she finished her other
chores. My brother indeed loved Nancy.
One time my mother was away for a two-week business trip, and we were under the care of
my dad and Nancy. The whole time my brother clung to Nancy like she was his birth mother. He
fell ill in the process, and the entire time he would not let go of Nancy. If she were out of sight
