The Iron curtain was a theoretical, partisan and military obstacle constructed by the
Soviet Union to isolate itself and fellow European allies from open association with the West and
noncommunist regions. Geographically, the marginal line cascaded from arctic Russia in the
north, through Eastern Europe across Bulgaria finalizing at the Black Sea. According to
Churchill (2009), iron curtain was a description of the division linking Western powers and the
regions under the control of the Soviet Union.
