Introduction
In this context, I will be highlighting some of challenges and issues encountered by retailers
when collecting customer information, data in reverse logistics processes. Additionally, I will be
explaining how retailers have utilized technology in solving these issues. Lastly, I will be
analyzing how technology has proved to be very important in managing reverse logistics
processes.
Challenges and issues do retailers face in collecting customer information, data, etc. in
reverse logistics processes
Currently, retailers have been facing huge challenges while collecting customer’s
information. The following are the three issues faced by retailers when collecting data which will
be addressed in this context: Digital Disruption, issues to do with logistics and in-store experience
issues (Fernie & Sparks, 2014). Digital disruption has challenged retailers on their operations.
Currently, people are suing in-store to purchase their products, items and services. In such a case,
retailers have been unable to access their customers fully. Additionally, customers are utilizing the
Internet to perform reconnaissance work—in terms of conducting an online search for product
information, affordable prices and complementary products. According to Forbes reports,
currently, the e-commerce accounts for approximately 10% of sales which used to be offered by
retailers. As a result, retailers are being forced to look for other survival alternatives.
Logistics issues. Retailers are responsible for ensuring effective communication between
them and their customers. Before implementation of technology, retailers used to be free in
accessing their customers at any time of their wish especially when paying their dues.
Implementation of technology created a better way of transforming payment processing. Initially,
retailers used to perform legacy payments systems. By doing so, they were able to collect data
