Social Media and the USA Presidency
Social media as communications tool comes with two essential characteristics that make it
efficient and lethal at the same time, depending on the user. These characteristics are the
instantaneousness of the media and the fact that news reaches to millions of users without one
having to gather the audience. This makes social media a very efficient platform to be used by
almost everyone but most importantly, by business personalities as well as elected leaders. This
paper entails the usage of social media by the U.S top elected leaders.
Social Media as Forum for Elected Leaders
Through social media, leaders might not have to wait for specific days to have millions of
people gather in a stadium or any venue for them to pass their messages. Consequently, such costs
are cut and instead, leaders can communicate with their audience right from where they are,
instantly and get responses immediately (Atkinson n.p). In other words, social media can be
considered as live communication only that the people are not gathered and seated in a place, and
the speaker is not using spoken words but written words. The social media can be used to push
forth for agenda in a more formal and organized manner. Such an organized use of social media
can be seen in the example of the Vice-president, Mike Pence (Atkinson n.p). This is in fact what
makes social media lethal since once words have been written and information passed to millions
of people, it stays on record and if the message is wrong or insulting, then the speaker lands in
problems. Therefore, this study proposes that social media is one of the best fora for elected lead...
