Young children will need to understand and utilize the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math in order to learn and progress within their classroom and within their lives.
Directions
For this assignment, you have been tasked with giving a short presentation at your early childhood program’s family night on how science, technology, engineering, and math are active parts of learning for children in your setting. You will design and record a presentation sharing how your setting engages children in play and the areas of STEM.
Step One: Design the Presentation
Using presentation software tools, such as PowerPoint, etc., create a visual presentation for your families for the virtual family night. The presentation should include the three STEM lessons or activities and environmental enhancements following the guide below.
Make sure to include visuals (images, photos, graphics) to illustrate the content in your presentation.
Science and Engineering: Apply play concepts to science and engineering environments and exploration.
Activity: Create one lesson or activity that combines science and engineering along with play for one chosen age group. Identify the age group and explain what the children will be learn. Discuss why these are important concepts for the child to know. Explain if the children will learn about things other than science and engineering.
Environmental Enhancements: Include a list of environmental enhancements you would add for three activity or interest areas for science and engineering exploration. Explain the materials you would add and how these materials will encourage learning science and engineering concepts.
Mathematics: Apply play concepts to mathematical learning and exploration.
