Comparative essay on Ramses II and Charlemagne
Ramses II and Charlemagne (Charles the great) are some of the most notable leaders in
history because they overcome some great obstacles to achieve great success in their lifetime.
They were both very young when they came into power and served some of the longest terms in
history. Ramses reigned between 1279 and 1213 BC, Charlemagne, however, came before him
(768-814 BC). Their route to power was very different. Ramses is perhaps the original story of
grass to grace, he came from humble backgrounds born to a family of commoners and fought
himself to the seat of power, he was pharaoh at just 25. Charlemagne, on the other hand, was
born with a silver spoon in his smooth as he was the son of Pepin III. He, therefore, inherited part
of the Frankish empire when his father passed (Western part) and acquired more territory after
the death of his brother, Carloman. After the death of his brother, Charlemagne became the sole
ruler (Williams 22)
