Hackers pilfered $6M from Russian central bank via SWIFT

Summary
Last year, hackers siphoned $6million from the Russian central bank through the SWIFT
messaging system. The report by the bank stated the attack resulted to unsanctioned operations
that amount to 339.5 million roubles. The hacker had gained access to the systems through one
of the numerous bank computers which he used to access the SWIFT system and consequently
transferred the money. Nick Bilogorskiy, a cybersecurity strategist at Juniper Networks stated
that sustainability of financial institutions is often threatened by hacking which calls for an
integration of international law enforcement cooperation in a bid to successfully defend the
