Taiko and Women: The Strength of Japanese-American Women Established in Traditional Music In Japanese Buddhism, Taiko drums symbolize the voice of the Buddha, on the battlefield, in song and dance. It is also a kind of Japanese folklore. It is one of the celebrations for peasants in celebrations of slack ceremonies and said that Taiko can rid the plague and the evil spirits. In ancient times, during the war used "drums" to boost morale, disrupt the enemy and expand the momentum to drive away the enemy. After the evolution, it has gradually become a symbol of strength and beauty. Usually the Japanese will always hold outdoor celebrations in the summer that Taiko will be the most popular one. Furthermore, as we listen to Taiko, it issued by the heavy low-frequency. When they are performing together that appear shocking endless music. With the beautiful melody that Taiko make, it is enough to make people listen more and more obsessed. Taiko drums are mainly performed in the form of "drum teams", bringing together all kinds of drums. After passing through the entire team again and again, drummers show the beauty of sound through complicated rhythms. They do not stick to the tradition or even out of the traditional image of the burden of innovation; and the essence of the unity of the Eastern culture, drums and body art to do the most perfect presentation. For this type of music, the performers not only use the drum as an instrument but aim to form a connection between the drum and the performers with the aim of achieving ultimate expression of Taiko. I have never played and heard about Taiko before this class. The first time I played, listened and watched Taiko in class, it actually made me to enjoy the loud and powerful sound. I also connect Taiko to Chinese drums. Similarly, people in China think that the drum has extraordinary power. Drums, like thunder, can bring rain and moisten the growth of crops. Moreover, spirt is the most essential part of what Taiko is about Back to ancient time, Taiko was generally more masculine-orientated art perform, but less opportunities for women to perform. Over the time with the society changes, women can participate in the powerful Taiko performance. Taiko is not only inspiring male in society, but also empower woman, to give them strength in all realms of their life. Although Taiko may appear is perceived as masculine-orientated art perform in this paper I will show that taiko empowers Japanese-American women. Truncated example in your installment please provide full paragraphs): APPENDIX B: Citing Material from Sources and Research Paper Installment #2 Plagiarism is intentionally or knowingly representing the words, ideas, or work of another as one's _own in any academic exercise. Committing plagiarism on a research paper can result in a failing grade. Every direct quotation or paraphrase must be identified by quotation marks and promptly cited by use of parenthesis indicating source (author, date, page number). I prefer APA style of citation. Example: Quotation: "The blues has always been a state of being as well as a way of singing" (Lomax 1993:xiii). Paraphrase: Few continents display such musical diversity as South America (Manuel 1988:24). If you interview someone (even a family member or friend) about your topic and you refer to them in any way in your paper they must be cited and appear in the reference page. Example: Interview: When asked about the role of women in blues, Ms. James replied, “The blues is about relationships, and the most personal stories always go back to a man and a woman" (James 2006). Make sure your reference page is consistent and complete. When quoting or paraphrasing a dictionary or encyclopedia make sure not to confuse the author with the editor.
