INTRODUCTION
❖
Ethnic, religious, sexual orientation, and gender identity are some of the
diversity paradigms in today’s workplace.
❖
While most of these issues have received substantial attention from
policymakers and the public regarding their social inclusion implications,
sexual orientation remains the most debatable, especially those concerning
the LGBT community.
❖
Also, it is the last line of prejudice and stereotype that transcends the ethnic
and religious barriers and most ignored by modern societies and institutions.
❖
Therefore, an examination of the issues, challenges and opportunities faced
and available to this group in the workplace is necessary in the context of
the legal framework for resolving it, the efficacy of existing solutions, and
the experiences from the group in other parts of the world.
Issues, Challenges, and Opportunities
❖ While
the issues and challenges facing the members of the LGBT
group are broad and several, they can be grouped into three
categories that represent the perspective of the society.
❖ First,
negative perception of their sexual orientation results in the
unequal treatment from employers.
❖ Secondly,
denial of rights and discriminatory practices in the
workplace.
❖ Finally,
the delay in the payment of claims and benefits after
disengagement from employment.
