Coronary artery disease is a heart disease that can cause death. This disease is one of the
leading death causes in the United States. The disease occurs when the arteries responsible for
supplying blood to the muscles of the heart become narrowed and hardened. Primarily, this is
caused by cholesterol buildup as well as plaque in the arteries inner walls. As this buildup
increases, there is less blood that flows through the arteries. This eventually causes the muscles
of the heart not to get the blood as well as oxygen that it requires. This causes chest pain and
