The international order after World War I was dominated by France and Britain. The
defeat of Germany had a significant impact on Adolf Hitler’s political and world view (Green).
As a soldier that took part in the war, accepting defeat of the German Empire was difficult. The
loss was partly blamed on betrayal by the Jews. The rampant antisemitism rhetoric at the time
encouraged this perspective. Hitler’s quest to restore the glory of Germany included tackling the
issue of Jews (Green). The challenges that Syria has faced are substantially different from those
Germany faced after World War I. Bashar al-Assad has had to deal factions of the population
that have destabilized his government and waged war against it. Like in Germany, such groups
