I chose to examine Popeyes Chicken for this week’s review.
According to Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen SWOT Analysis, USP & Competitors . (n.d.), two strengths Popeyes has is that it is a recognizable brand name, from the large orange letters with a red banner to the large P in the Louisiana Kitchen circle emblem and that they have an international presence in more than 20 countries.
Two weaknesses Popeyes has is that they have a weak online presence, they do not utilize social media sites as they could or even should be and that the majority of the store locations are attached to gas stations which means the customer loyalty is put into question.
Threats include the rising costs of ingredients as new items are added to the menu like salads and the cost to offer changes in existing products, like butterfly shrimp compared to popcorn shrimp or the many variations of dipping sauces. Secondly, the competition is rising with other fried chicken fast food chains are availiable, such as Churches chicken, KFC and Chick-Fil-A.
Two strategic marketing recommendations I would make is to make their social media and online presense more useful and obvious in order to catch the eye, or taste buds of reoccuring and new customers. Secondly, I would recommend that they offer healthier options on the menu, I remember years ago they offered naked chicken strips which were really good and didn’t have all the breading the traditional chicken does.
I came to these two recommendations because we have learned in this class that social media plays a huge role in today’s society and advertising as well as fresher and healthier options appease those who are health consicous but still enjoy fast food and quality flavor.
