Epic stories focus on the heroic deeds of historical leaders and mythical figures. From Gilgamesh in Mesopotamia, to the Aeneid in ancient Rome, to Sundiata in the Mali Empire, these stories figure prominently in a number of cultures. What functions do these stories serve for the cultures which gave rise to them?

Epics are generally framed as an ancient phenomenon, but it may be that stories of this type exist in some form today. Alternatively, it may be that the functions of epic tales are served in other ways in contemporary society. Where do you see the legacy of epics at play in today's world? please write about 200-250 words.
