Why have a curriculum?

A curriculum is a formal school document which guides and directs the teaching and learning
process. It contains the desired learning outcomes, standards, and core competencies that the
learners must acquire before advancing to the next levels. A curriculum is critical in any learning
institution that wishes to achieve its goals. Firstly, a curriculum informs the teachers the skills
that must be taught in a particular grade. Secondly, it helps the students to know what they are
required to learn and complete to earn certification. Hence, it motivates the learners and
reassures them that they are on the right track to achieving their goals.

Who should be involved in the curriculum development?

The process and product of curriculum development involve various stakeholders such as the
