Introduction
Toyota Motor Corporation engages in the design, manufacture, assembly, and sale of
automobiles of all types. Besides handling passenger cars, minivans and commercial vehicles,
the company is also involved in the sale of related vehicle parts and accessories. Toyota Motor
Corporation has a broad market for its products, but the primary markets are Japan, North
America, Europe and Asia. The firms most notable automobiles are Toyota, Daihatsu, Hino, and
Lexus. Apparently, the firm is ranked as the global leading manufacturer of cars and the 8th
largest firm. As of March 2017, Toyota Motor Corporation had 27.6 trillion Japanese Yen in
total net revenue with 364,445 employees. The company has its headquarters in Aichi, Japan.
Background of Company
Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese automobile firm founded in 1937 by Kiichiro
Toyoda. The company was a spinoff from a firm, Toyota Industries, that his father had already
started with the sole intention of manufacturing automobiles. The company is one of the most
successful business ventures with operations in over 170 nations worldwide. In 2017, the
company sold 10 million cars. The firm has over 50 production factories widespread over 28
countries all over the world. Since 2012, Toyota Motor Corporation has managed to reach the 10
million mark in annual sales. Toyota has been ranked as the most valuable automotive brand and
the 5th most valuable brand in the world. The company has managed to beat close rivals such as
Volkswagen and General Motors.
Toyota Motor Corporation had a smooth run until the 2011 tsunami disaster in
northeastern Japan. The Tsunami affected the company immensely, and it took time to recover.
Apparently, the oil prices have skyrocketed in the recent years following economic recession in
most parts of the world for the past five years. Additionally, more people have shifted their

preference for fuel-guzzling cars following the recent environmental concerns on the need to
manufacture fuel-efficient and environment-friendly cars. The company CEO, Akio Toyoda,
took the initiative to halt the expansion of the firm instead and instead decided to venture on
improving the quality of the cars produced and train the workforce to improve efficiency.
Recently, the company has announced its move to build hybrid and fuel free cars by 2050.
Research Methodology
The research on Toyota Motor Corporation will depend on both qualitative and
quantitative methods of collecting data. This paper deploys the survey research and secondary
data research methods. Besides interviewing officials and workers from Toyota Motor
Corporation, this case study will also rely on existing information regarding the operations of the
company. Each participant in the research will, therefore, be issued with a set of questions which
they should respond to. There should also be interviews which can be conducted either face to
face or through a phone call depending on the proximity of the participant and their preferences.
The responses should be reviewed and analyzed to come up with meaningful information.
