Ethanol is an organic compound that contains the following: carbon, hydrogen and an
ethyl group. It is an alcohol. Other notable compounds within this group of alcohols are
methanol, propanol, and butanol. Ethanol has the chemical formula C2H5OH. Some of the major
characteristics of ethanol are followed: it is a liquid at room temperature, it easily mixes with
