Organizational design refers to a step-by-step procedure used by firms to identify dysfunctional
aspects of work-flow, processes and operations and realigning them to abide with the current
business set targets and realities thus making it easy to develop plans and implement new business
Generally, organizational structures help firms in defining how operations such as
supervision and coordination, task allocation are directed in a manner which will enable them to
achieve their set goals and targets. By using organizational structures, firms end up being flexible,
efficient, caring and innovative thus being able to achieve a sustainable-competitive advantage.
Alternatively, organizational structure may be referred to as viewing glass or perspective used by
firm managers to see and monitor their organization and its environment. Normally, an
organization may be structured in different ways based on their set targets. An organizational
structure help in determining the modes in which an organizational operates and performs.
