Finish Chapter 5:
Taoism, pages 196-218
II. Writing Assignment:
Complete Worksheet #7 and turn in by Sunday night, April 2 by
11:59 pm. It is located in the Week Eight folder under the
Assignment Link on Blackboard. Please submit your homework
through that assignment link. Instructions for this are given
elsewhere.
To get full credit the answers must be thorough, show thought and
completely fill in the blanks provided.

III. Discussion Board Assignment Questions:
Answer these question on the Discussion Board in Blackboard.
Question One:
1. Explain your understanding of the Tao. Give reasons to support
your interpretation of this enigmatic concept.
2. The book lists three types of Taoism: Effective Power
(Philosophical Taoism), Augmented Power (Taoist Hygiene and
Yoga) and Vicarious Power (Religious Taoism). Which one
appeals to you the most and why? Please make sure you have read
and understand the one you chose before discussing it.
Or
3. What is
Chi
? What role does it play in Taoism? How could you
apply this concept to your life? Give reasons to support your view.
Question Two:
1. Explain the concept of
Wu-Wei
. What role does it play in
Taoism? Give an example of it? You can also give an example of it
in your own life.
Or
2. Choose a saying from the Tao-te-Ching and quote it here. Then
explain what you think it means. Give reasons to support your
view. The quote is not part of the 150 words counted toward your
answer.
Or
3. In the West we tend to separate good and evil. We believe there
are good guys and bad guys or good actions and bad actions. The
Chinese through the notion of Yin/Yang don’t believe we can
separate Good and Bad so easily. They see them as interrelated. In
other words nothing is all “good” or all “bad” but is in some sense
both. What do you think of these two differing views? Give
reasons to support your answer.
4. Choose something else in the chapter on Taoism that caught
your attention that hasn’t been brought up in these questions. State
what it is and why you chose it. Give reasons to support your view.
