Introduction

The justice system is meant to ensure that offenders or convicts can account for their
actions, and be made better to go back into society and live at peace with others. Some of the
correctional programs put in place to ensure this, all fall under rehabilitation. Thus the
rehabilitation facilities and programs aid in changing the wrongful behaviors of the convicts
(Allen et al. 2015).
Definitions and origins of rehabilitation in prison
The rehabilitation process occurs when an individual is integrated back into the society
after being convicted for committing an offense (Lipsey and Cullen, 2007). Mostly, it is in the
form of programs with the attempt of bringing back the individual to their previous state.
Rehabilitation is meant to make the offender change and not let the offense recur. It is also
expected to change the attitude and views of these individuals so that instead of them committing
other crimes, they can be law abiding. Prisons or jail terms are the most common forms of
