Individual Change Assessments
Mental health professionals perform numerous tasks, ranging from counseling to
assessing an individual’s psychological health in rehabilitation centers, homes and also
school settings. This article will examine the University of Rhode Island Individual Change
Assessment (URICA) and will respond to the assessments that Justin could have answered, as
a first-time offender charged with the possession of the drug, and underage consumption of
drugs.
Role of mental health professional
Mental assessment includes diagnosis and treatment planning. In the case of Justin,
the mental health professional can decide the problems and challenges of underage
consumption and drug possession, and also rehabilitative mechanisms. Justin’s assessment is
vital since the psychological professional can use it in placing him in a relevant criminal
diversion program. Through careful evaluation, Justin can get the essential services that
otherwise may have been attainable. Justin’s active participation in the direction program
gives him the chance to learn about his challenges, strengths, interests, and activities,
therefore, promoting his wellness and growth (Butcher, 2010).
As a mental health professional, one should be conscious of the evaluation tools used
in selecting the client's urgent needs; therefore the health professional should be grounded in
the assessment strategies such as administering, scoring and interpreting the results from their
clients. The mental health professional should be aware that they are accountable to the
general public and their client; therefore they should work within the legal and ethical
framework, to be useful in their practice (Butcher, 2010).
