Description

TITLE: College Major Selection

Project Goal:

The main goal of this project is to solve a decision problem (benefit from an opportunity) using the predictive and prescriptive techniques. The sub goals of the project are:

  • Identify and define a problem
  • Investigate a given problem's potential solutions
  • Propose a model for solving a given decision problem
  • Implement the model and get the solutions.

All details and guidelines are included in the attached file 😇

Milestone 2: Modeling and data collection • • • • • As a first step, a model representing the problem has to be provided; variables and relationships between them are to be specified. The two groups could combine their efforts in this step but some aspects may be dealt with differently. Secondly, you need to specify, generate or collect the datasets required for their model (if required). You will provide a solution to the model using a different technique (either covered in the course or not). Make sure that you provide a justification for each of the non-trivial elements of this model. Be sure to make all your assumptions explicit. A report of 1500 words at least is to be submitted in electronic format. Milestone 3: Implementation and result comparison • • • • • Choose a DSS tool for implementing proposed model (choice has to be justified) Design a simple test plan aiming at finding the best solution along with the best parameters of the model (If Applicable) Implement the proposed model A comparison between the two provided models (two groups) is to be included A report of 1500 words at most is to be submitted in electronic format. Guidelines • Include your references at the end of your paper. • You may use IEEE or ACM templates for research papers. • Express your own opinion as a researcher (not only what others say). • Caption diagrams, tables, and pictures with proper numbering and title. • Your work must be done completely by your own unless stated. General Writing Notes: • Use Transition words (e.g. Firstly, secondly, Thus, in conclusion, .. etc.). • It's preferable to include an abstract at the beginning of your paper. Abstract isn’t included in the word count. • Uses references that are either up-to-date or the ones with original contribution in the field with high number of quotations by other users. • Use academic and scientific language.

COLLEGE MAJOR SELECTION

ABSTRACT

Indecisiveness among the college students is something that students can't avoid if they
don't have a better structure of their ambitions in life. It is challenging to settle on a specific
major especially on arrival to the College. The study conducted here explored the things that do
happen in the community college and what factors come into play when the students need to
choose their majors. The contributing factors that affect the students to settle on one significant
and not the other and why they settled on the specific primary highlighted in the study below.
The research study involved students who partially undecided about the already selected major
they plan to undertake in their course. The series of questions that the Participants interviewed
entailed the decision process that the students decide to settle in, what made them decide that
way, their sources of encouragement to choose the majors and the and the comfortability of the
major selected. From the reports and research information realized is that the students got a lot of
pressure from the colleagues, the parents, the mates, peers, role models, family members, and
faculty members. The other thing that made the students stick to one primary was the fact that
majors were given different amounts of money depending on the complexity of the major. The
decision here based according to the fact that you can afford to pay for the major.
