Introduction

Immigration across EU has been an issue for most people can relate to it challenges. A lot
of changes in migration patterns in EU have been witnessed since the 1989 memorable events.
According to Park, (2015), the international population movements in the post-communist
countries of Central and Eastern Europe have evolved. Previously, migration was of the form of
population movement to the west. What is current is that the European Union has become the
new destination for most population flows. People from the neighboring countries of the USSR
and South-Eastern Europe moved into the European Union for various reasons. Migration in EU
has gone beyond the blundering countries to include non-European countries such as Vietnam,
China and Sri Lanka and other African countries. Population movement across the European
Union had been due to some reasons. As explained by Geddes, and Scholten, (2016), these
reasons are categorized in four forms; Environmental, Economic, Cultural and Socio-political.
This paper will discuss the Economic factors that have necessitated migration across European
Union and the policies that have put in place to control the population flow by European
institutions.
