Technology and Social Change
In the current world, technology has been the talk and focus of almost all sectors of the
economy. Technology is a term used to refer to the various methods, devices as well as systems
that come as a result of knowledge that revolve around the scientific approach and which are
utilized for practical purposes (Hubbard, 1976). There has been a very significant advancement in
the field of technology. Technology grows depending on what is being developed for instance;
there is the nuclear weapons technology and computer technology.
On the other hand, social change is when there is a profound alteration over time in the
way of behavior, the various values associated with culture and also the norms of a society.
There have been great examples of these social changes which have got long-term effects related
to it. For instance, the industrial revolution and slavery being abolished (Moscovici, 1976) .Some
social changes like the one associated with technology happen fast while others occur at a slower
rate. It is worth noting that change may be faced with some resistance especially when the people
concerned have a feeling of being threatened by the changes expected to occur.
There is a great relationship between technology and social change. The existing
technological advancement such as the one around computers, automobiles, airplane, and others
has in a great way influenced the way human beings meet, learn, travel and execute business
activities. This has over time made a great difference in the way these people behave and hence a
change in the society’s cultural values and norms. Through the internet, many people are now
