Introduction
The current technology-driven world is described by a complex sphere of increased
interdependencies and connections, through which human actions in one location have a great
impact on other communities both locally and internationally (Jakobs & Monfils, 2010). Global
citizenship ideology explains that an individual’s identity transcends geographical and political
boundaries; rather human civic responsibilities are defined by a broader sense of humanity.
Being a global citizen is a belief in the diversity of cultures and perspectives which gives priority
to global issues. After World War II, there have been efforts to institute global structures and
policies to support global community values. A global citizen is someone whose actions
identified with a contribution to the world's practices and values.
The Importance of Global Citizenship
Being global citizens creates a universal consciousness about the value of humanity
irrespective of the diversity of culture and origin. Through globalization, international economies
are interconnected supported by improved communication and transport networks (Reysen &
Katzarska-Miller, 2013). This enables local business entrepreneurs to open to the global market,
where goods and services can be exchanged. Consequently, having a community of people who
come from varying backgrounds gives a different perspective of life, and thus enables p...
